“Innovation for a cause” will be the highlight of the first day of Techfest, Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay’s (IIT-B) annual technology festival that will kick off on Friday. In a first, the event is set to host all 15 IITs for a social impact competition,  which will see the institutes pull out all stops to produce new technology of benefit to people. Other firsts at the Techfest include a 3D-projection theatrical show called June, during which an 11 member team will use three-dimensional mapping used in feature films to create visuals used as the backdrop of a fictional scene. Speaking about the show, an organising member said. “This is the first time such an experience will be created Techfest. The team will create a railway station scene and destroy it through 3D mapping, just like it is used in films made in Hollywood.”
